Really pleased with the service from the team at GoBig Digital particularly Matt who I meet with regular. They are very direct and give you honest advice. I have found that other companies offering similar services just want to keep increasing budgets in the hope of a better return on investment. However, Matt and his team take a more strategic approach, analyse the data and make smart decisions that have worked great so far. Return on investment in March was +1898% and Jan +1269% on google ads. Would highly recommend

I was looking for someone to help boost my business, and I really wanted to work with fellow veterans. I came across Matt at GoBig Digital and the experience has been brilliant. Communication throughout was excellent and he really listened to my brief. Since my website was rebuilt, I’ve seen an increase in website traffic and I’m getting a lot more visibility on Google. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

GoBig made sense of PPC and SEO for me, not just what ‘good’ should look like but why results were happening and what my business could do to capitalise on them. 100% recommended.

The best responsive web design practices in the digital realm

The best responsive web design practices in the digital realm

A website’s success hinges on its ability to adapt to different devices and screen sizes. Whether visitors are browsing on their smartphones, tablets, or desktop computers, the need for responsive web design has never been greater. But what exactly makes a website “responsive”, and how can you ensure your design meets the needs of every user? Let’s dive into the top five responsive web design practices that can elevate your site’s user experience and performance. You should take these factors into account if you yourself are looking for web design in Stevenage.

Five essential responsive design practices you need to know about

Mobile-first design approach

The mobile-first approach has quickly become one of the most crucial practices in responsive web design. With mobile internet usage surpassing desktop usage, it’s important to prioritise how your website functions on smaller screens. By designing with mobile in mind, you ensure that the most essential features are front and centre, providing users with a seamless experience on smartphones and tablets.

Designing for mobile first also means reducing unnecessary elements and focusing on essential content. Once your mobile version is optimised, you can then scale up to larger screens, such as tablets and desktops.

Flexible grid layouts

A flexible grid layout is at the heart of responsive web design. Instead of using fixed-width elements, flexible grids allow your content to resize dynamically based on the screen size. This means your website will adjust to different screen widths, whether it’s a mobile device or a large desktop monitor.

CSS Grid and Flexbox are popular tools for creating these adaptable grid systems. By using percentages and relative units (like ems or rems) rather than fixed pixel values, you ensure that your layout adjusts fluidly to its container.

Optimise images for different screen sizes

Images are a key part of any website, but they can also be a major culprit in slowing down page load times, especially on mobile devices. A responsive web design practice that can significantly enhance performance is optimising images for different screen sizes and resolutions.

Using responsive image techniques, such as the srcset attribute in HTML, allows you to specify different images for various devices. This ensures that your images are properly sized for the device and reduces unnecessary load time.

Ensure easy navigation on small screens

Navigation is critical to a website’s usability, and it becomes even more important on smaller devices like smartphones. To maintain a great user experience on mobile, consider simplifying your navigation. A common approach is to use a hamburger menu, which hides the menu behind a clickable icon to save space.

However, don’t forget to keep navigation intuitive. Make sure your buttons are large enough to tap comfortably, and ensure that links are easy to find and use, even on the smallest of screens. This helps prevent frustration and enhances the overall experience.

Test across multiple devices and browsers

The best responsive web design practices don’t stop at development; regular testing is essential. A website that looks great on one device might not render well on another. Testing across multiple devices (from smartphones to tablets to desktops) and browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) helps identify any issues early. This step is crucial for fine-tuning your design and ensuring that your site is ready for all users, regardless of how they access it.
